After a quick search on the web I confirmed what I suspected. Blogger.com, the site I use to compose this cheesy little page, is blocked in China. There are reports that sites like blogger, youtube, twitter, and other free flow of information sites are blocked 99% of the time. There are instances when these sites are available for no apparent reason but these times are short lived. Eventually the Great Firewall of China kicks into high gear and disables accessibility to the sites.
We arrive in Bangkok Friday 10/22. There's a better chance of having open lines of communication in Thailand but Thailand went through an upheaval a few months ago. Here too it's a crapshoot.
Without getting into a philosophical debate on open societies and freedom of expression I'll end this post by saying that the likelihood of you seeing any updates from Shanghai are slim to none. Chances of seeing updates from Bangkok are 50/50.
Who knows, since we are staying in western hotels geared towards business travelers they may have have lax regulations at the hotel.
....or not.
